La Palmyre and its beaches
There are many beaches proposing a nice place to rest, sunbath, surf, windsurf. The boat excursions and jet- ski rides leave from the Port of La Palmyre. Go for a boat trip along the coast, visit of the lighthouse of Cordouan or go fishing at the sea.
The fine sandy beaches extend between Royan (located 16km), Saint-Palais sur mer (12 km), the Grande Cote (2km) … The closest one, La Palmyre beach is only 750 meters far from the hotel!
The Cote Sauvage stretches in a long cordon of fine sandy sea, bordered by pine forests all along 18 km, taking you from the Lighthouse of La Coubre to Ronce les Bains-La Tremblade.
Bike Rides in La Palmyre
Cyclotrott located only 750m far from the hotel at the port of La Palmyre, provides bike, equipment (helmets, children bike trailers), and tandem bike rental. Enjoy more than 50 km of various bicycle paths.
Shopping at La Palmyre
The hotel is located only 100 m far from the shops, bars, restaurants, ice-cream shops, pancake restaurants, etc… Every Wednesday and Sunday morning from 8 am to 1 pm (from April to September) there is a street market selling regional products and every Wednesday a night market till 11 pm (from April to August).
The hotel doesn’t have a restaurant. You can get a list of restaurants at the reception desk.
The Palmyre Zoo
Only 300m from the hotel, the Zoo is open every day from 9 am to 7 pm. The surface of 18 hectares covered by more than 110 different species to discover in natural and varied settings. A great fun for children but also for adults, the Palmyre Zoo plays an important role in the conservation of endangered species, scientific research and environmental education. Every year there are between 200 and 300 animals born. That success is explained by an extraordinary care given to animals, especially the attention to food. Founded by Claude Caillé in 1966, this unique site has become one of the most reputable Zoos in France and an inevitable element of the region’s sentimental heritage.
Golf
La Palmyre Golf Club (7 rue de La Palmyre) is located 950 meters from the hotel. This is a 9-hole, 4-star golf located near Club Med. The Golf has been designed in the heart of a sumptuous pine forest with breath-taking views on the Atlantic Ocean.
Royan Golf club is 4km from the hotel, in Saint-Palais sur Mer, surrounded by nature and its pine forest. This 18-hole golf offers competitions, pro shop, restaurant, association, etc…
The Zagal Cabaret show
Zagal Cabaret offers different packages with or without meals.
In 2021 “L’Arbre aux Chevaux” will amaze you with the prowess of top-level acrobats and stuntmen. On the stage bigger than 800m², the complicity of mankind and horse is evident. Discover Charente-Maritime
The Au Palmyre Hotel is ideally located in the heart of Charente-Maritime. Its heritage is very rich and during summer there are many activities to do including water sports, sightseeing, cultural and art events.
On the coasts of that region, you can find many beaches and try different water activities. You can visit the islands: Oléron Island which is located only 24 km from La Palmyre, Ré Island – 60 km far from La Palmyre, Aix Island– 35 km from La Palmyre, accessible only on a small boat, and Madame Island.. Visit Fort Boyard, Fort Louvois and Phare de Cordouan that are accessible by boat.
Discover the typical villages: Mornac-sur-Seudre, its artisans and its small port (20km from La Palmyre), Talmont (40 km) and all of Gironde’s estuary, a heartland of caviar of Charente.
The must-see is definitely a city called La Rochelle which is located 65km far from La Palmyre. All year round you can get charmed by the old town, its port, towers, the Minimes quarter and museums.
Visit also Rochefort-sur-Mer, famous thanks to the boat called Hermione – a copy of the Lafayette frigate, the suspension bridge of Mr Eiffel, the house of Pierre Loti and the Corderie Royale.
The town of Saintes, surrounded by the Charente, has a historical importance due to its Roman sites and its boat trips.
For big gourmets, the city of Cognac will satisfy you by a visit to the many Cognac cellars.
From the gastronomic point of view, in addition to seafood, famous oysters and fish, try local products: Pineau and Cognac, butter cake, salted butter caramel… a treat and gift idea.
